Sea kayaking isn’t just about paddling. It’s about slowing down, being present, and letting the sea carry you somewhere unknown.
Whether you’re kayaking on Dugi Otok through sheltered coves, gliding beneath the towering cliffs of Telašćica Nature Park, or you embark on sea kayaking expedition through Kornati National Park, being physically and mentally prepared can turn a sea kayaking expedition into a life-shaping adventure.
So… Do You Need to Be an Athlete?
Short answer: No. But you should be active, adventurous, and up for the occasional splash of saltwater in your face.
You don’t need six-pack abs or kayak trophies. You need curiosity, a bit of stamina, and the ability to laugh if (read: when) you tip over. Yes, it happens — even to us. And trust us: saltwater is great for the skin. 😉
Paddle Power: How to Get Your Body Ready
A sea kayak expedition does ask something of your body — but it rewards it too.
- Endurance: Can you spend a few hours walking, cycling, or hiking in a day without collapsing? Great — you’re on track.
- Upper body strength: No need to bench press anything. Some light core and shoulder strength (planks, resistance bands, push-ups) will help.
- Flexibility: Your hips and back will thank you after a bit of daily stretching.
- Kayak practice (if possible): If you can get on the sea (or even a lake) before your trip — awesome. If not, we’ll get you started. You’ll have time to ease in.
What About Experience?
Plenty of our guests have never kayaked before. They just know they like the outdoors and want an adventure that moves at the speed of nature.
Our routes are carefully chosen to match both scenery and safety. That said:
- We do cross open sea, and conditions can shift.
- We adapt routes to fit the weather — but a flexible mindset goes a long way.
- You’ll learn safety basics, self-rescue, and technique.
- And yes — our guides are with you stroke by stroke.
What You’ll Need (Besides a Good Attitude)
We provide the core equipment, including:
- Top-quality sea kayaks (Prijon: Seayak Classic, Seatron GT, Touryak)
- Paddles, life jackets (PFDs), spray skirts
- Dry bags, safety gear
You should bring:
- Quick-dry, layered clothing
- A windproof top
- Sun protection (hat, glasses, SPF)
- Sea shoes or sandals
- A dry bag for your phone & dry gear
- Refillable bottle (2–3L/day — we help with refills)
Food, Sea & Snacks
- You’ll be active — fuel up!
- Pack high-energy snacks (fruit, bars, nuts)
- Depending on your trip, we will provide/help with meals /or guide you through food preparation
- Stay hydrated: at least 2–3L of water per day — sea kayaking is thirsty work (but not salty work 😉)
So… Are You Ready?
If you’re someone who:
- Loves the outdoors
- Doesn’t mind a bit of effort (or sweat)
- Is open to challenge and surprise
- Can find beauty in silence and wonder in salt…
Then yes. You’re more ready than you think.
Some days may be long. Some moments may test you. But others will gift you with stillness, starlight, and the feeling of arriving in a place no road could take you.
And if you flip your kayak? Laugh. Splash around. Climb back in. It’s not a failure. It’s a refreshment. 😄
You Bring the Spirit — We’ll Handle the Rest
We’re here to guide, support, and paddle alongside you. All you need is a bit of preparation, an open mind, and the courage to let go of the schedule — and follow the sea.
