Itinerary
1. What is a self-guided kayak tour?

The adventure starts on Dugi Otok, where guests arrive by ferry from Zadar (Gazenica–Brbinj), either independently or through our organized transfer. Since arrival times vary, the first day is designed for settling in—getting to know the island, the guides, and fellow paddlers.

At Kamp Kargita, our starting point, there’s time to familiarize yourself with the kayak, test the gear, or simply explore the surroundings. In the evening, we gather for dinner, followed by a detailed expedition briefing. The guides will walk you through the journey ahead, answer any questions, and ensure you feel prepared and confident.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Paddling the Western Coast & Sakarun Bay

The first paddling day begins with breakfast and gear packing before heading south along the western coast of Dugi Otok.

After about 10 km, we reach Sakarun Bay, a place known for its striking contrast between white sand and calm, shallow waters. A perfect spot for a break, a swim, and a chance to stretch before continuing.

We paddle further down, reaching and exploring Veli Zal beach, continuing along the coast until we find a remote beach to set up camp and spend our first night under the stars.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: Breakfast

Distance: 20km

Day 3: Further Exploration ( Petnica- Teteviščica) 14 km

On this day, with the morning sun rising, we break camp and continue paddling south along the western coast of Dugi Otok. Paddling through hidden coves and some secret locations inaccessible from land, we’ll uncover the quiet, untouched beauty of this rugged coastline. The day offers the chance to explore secluded spots, each with its own mystery and charm, creating a perfect mix of adventure and discovery. We set up our tents on a remote beach and spend the night there.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast

Distance: 14 km

Day 4: Beneath the Cliffs of Dugi Otok

Today’s stretch brings us below the towering cliffs of Dugi Otok, rising up to 160 meters from the sea. The vertical rock face creates a sense of scale that is hard to put into words. Paddling along this coastline is a humbling experience. With little opportunity to land, this section requires stable conditions, but if the weather aligns, it’s a passage you won’t forget.

This is the day when we connect Dugi Otok with Kornati National Park, transitioning from one landscape to another. After this challenging stretch, we’ll enter the Kornati archipelago, where our exploration continues through its maze of islands and rugged shorelines. We end the day at private property Lantina, where we’ll spend the night.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast

Distance: 22 km

Day 5: Exploring the Kornati Archipelago (Podbižanj– Lavsa)

A full day dedicated to the Kornati Islands, a place of raw beauty where the land meets the sea in sharp contrast.

We weave through a maze of islands, paddle past dramatic cliffs that plunge into the sea, and discover secluded coves along the way. One stop takes us to Mana Island, where the ruins of old stone structures tell a story of past.

This is the longest paddling day (22–25 km), but every kilometar brings something new to take in.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast

Distance: 22-25km

Day 6: Island Lavsa – Island Ravni Zakan

We continue our expedition, paddling through the island labyrinth of the Kornati archipelago. The day will involve around 15 km of paddling, from Lavsa to Žakan, and we will tailor the journey to the group's preferences and abilities. Those seeking a more challenging paddle will have the opportunity for a longer route, while those preferring a more relaxed day will head directly to Ravni Žakan for a break and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast

Distance: 15+km

Day 7: Žakan – Ruževica

As we continue our expedition, leaving Ravni Žakan behind and heading towards the southeastern side of Kornat Island, we will paddle along this less explored coastline, navigating through more rugged terrain leading us to Ruževica bay. Here, we will set up camp for the night. A delicious dinner with local specialties will be waiting for our guests, a perfect end to a day spent in nature.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast + dinner

Distance: 18 km

Day 8: Final paddling stretch & return to Dugi Otok (Ruževica – Proversa)

As we begin the final leg of our sea kayaking expedition, we will paddle from Ruževica towards the western side of Žut Island, heading towards the Proversa Passage. Along the way, we will explore the coastline of Žut, with breaks at hidden coves and secluded beaches, taking the time to enjoy the tranquil beauty of this less-visited side of the island. After completing this final stretch of paddling, we’ll cross the Proversa Passage back to Dugi Otok, marking the end of the sea kayaking portion of our journey.

Once we land, we’ll pack up our gear and transport it to the Kargita campsite, where we’ll spend the night before departing the island the following day.

Overnight: Camping

Meals: breakfast + dinner

Distance: 18 km

Day 9: Departure

After breakfast, we’ll take time to reflect on the journey and share final thoughts. Once everything is packed, transport will be organized to the ferry port for departure, marking the end of the expedition.

Food

Mornings in the wild

There’s something special about starting your day outdoors. Our breakfasts are simple, nourishing and just what you need before paddling off. Expect fresh fruit, crunchy muesli, homemade spreads, hearty bread, and, when the moment allows, some eggs straight from the pan. It’s a laid-back, shared around the campsite table.

We usually set up breakfast around 7:30 AM, depending on the day’s plan.

Seaside snack/ Picnic lunch on the Shore

Somewhere along the coast, under the shade of pines or on sun-warmed rocks, we pause. Lunch is a relaxed beach-style picnic – colourful salads, sandwiches packed with flavour, and fresh seasonal fruit. Mostly prepared in advance and packed for quick serving , so we can enjoy it whenever we find that perfect spot.

Most days we take a break for lunch between 1 PM and 2 PM, but nature has the final word – weather and sea conditions may shift things around.

Evenings Together

As the day winds down, we gather again – usually in the soft light of sunset, sometimes even under the stars. Dinners are warm and filling: pasta or rice dishes with fresh vegetables, rich sauces, a crunchy salad on the side… and always good company. It’s more than just a meal – it’s a moment to reflect, laugh, and rest.

Dinner is typically served between 7 and 8 PM, though in spring and autumn months with shorter daylight, we tend to eat a bit earlier, around 5 or 6 PM.

Fuel for the Journey

Throughout the trip, our aim is to keep you well-fed and full of energy. Alongside the main meals, we include expedition-friendly snacks like trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, and energy bars – ideal for quick breaks between paddle strokes.

Shared Meals, Shared Moments

Our guides take care of all the behind-the-scenes logistics — from meal planning to shopping and making sure everything is ready. But when it comes to cooking, we like to keep things communal. Preparing food together is part of the rhythm of the trip — chopping, stirring, cooking, and sharing stories around the stove. You don’t need to be a kitchen pro, just willing to jump in when it’s time.

The rules are simple (and only half-joking): if you don’t cook, you’ll likely do the dishes. Everyone washes their own utensils after meals, and the shared cooking gear usually goes to those who skipped the chopping. If everyone helps a little, no one works too much — and somehow, the food tastes even better and we keep alive POMALO  way of life…

Special Dietary Needs

We’re committed to making sure everyone feels safe and well looked after, including those with specific dietary needs or allergies. During the booking process, we’ll ask you to fill out a medical form that covers this in detail. That way, we can plan ahead and make sure meals suit everyone as best as possible.

FAQ
What kind of accommodation is included?

We offer accommodation in carefully selected local guesthouses, apartments or small boutique hotels, depending on the location of the tour. All accommodations are clean, comfortable, and close to the sea – often within walking distance to our kayaking base.

Do I get a private room?

Yes, you will have a private room unless you book as a couple or request a twin/double room. Solo travelers are not expected to share rooms unless requested.

Is breakfast or dinner included?

Breakfast is included with accommodation in most arrangements. Dinners are not usually included to give you the flexibility to explore local restaurants and cuisine. We are happy to recommend our favorite spots!

Can you accommodate special diets?

Yes – vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other special dietary needs can usually be accommodated. Just let us know in advance when booking.

What’s the difference between an accommodation-based tour and an expedition tour?

Accommodation-based tours offer more comfort: you return to the same bed each night, enjoy a hot shower, and don’t have to pack and move camp daily. Expedition tours are more adventurous and immersive, often involving camping and self-sufficiency.

Is there air conditioning?

Yes, all our accommodation partners provide rooms with air conditioning or at least a fan, depending on the season and the specific property.

Can I bring my non-kayaking partner or friend?

Depending on the itinerary, yes. Some of our accommodation-based trips allow for non-paddling companions to join and enjoy the destination while you’re kayaking. Contact us to see if the trip you’re interested in can accommodate this.

What should I bring?

We’ll send you a full packing list after booking, but in general: light clothes, swimwear, sun protection, water shoes or sandals, and a sense of adventure!

Do I need kayaking experience?

Some previous experience is helpful but not mandatory for accommodation-based tours. Our guides will teach you the basics and adapt the route to the group’s skill level.

How big are the groups?

We keep our groups small – usually between 4 and 8 guests – to ensure a personal and safe experience on the water.

Is transportation from the airport or ferry terminal included?

Transfers are not automatically included, but we can help you arrange transportation to and from your accommodation. Just let us know your arrival details in advance.

What happens in case of bad weather?

Safety always comes first. If sea conditions are unsafe, we may adjust the schedule, organize an alternative land-based activity, or reschedule a paddling day. We monitor forecasts daily and stay flexible to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Can I store my luggage somewhere during the tour?

Yes. If you're traveling with extra luggage, we can arrange secure storage while you're on the tour.

Is snorkeling equipment provided?

Yes – masks and snorkels are available and included in the tour price. You're also welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.

Will I have Wi-Fi at the accommodation?

Most accommodations offer free Wi-Fi. However, please note that in some remote areas, the signal might be weaker or slower.
