Food

Mornings in the wild

There’s something special about starting your day outdoors. Our breakfasts are simple, nourishing and just what you need before paddling off. Expect fresh fruit, crunchy muesli, homemade spreads, hearty bread, and, when the moment allows, some eggs straight from the pan. It’s a laid-back, shared around the campsite table.

We usually set up breakfast around 7:30 AM, depending on the day’s plan.

Seaside snack/ Picnic lunch on the Shore

Somewhere along the coast, under the shade of pines or on sun-warmed rocks, we pause. Lunch is a relaxed beach-style picnic – colourful salads, sandwiches packed with flavour, and fresh seasonal fruit. Mostly prepared in advance and packed for quick serving , so we can enjoy it whenever we find that perfect spot.

Most days we take a break for lunch between 1 PM and 2 PM, but nature has the final word – weather and sea conditions may shift things around.

Evenings Together

As the day winds down, we gather again – usually in the soft light of sunset, sometimes even under the stars. Dinners are warm and filling: pasta or rice dishes with fresh vegetables, rich sauces, a crunchy salad on the side… and always good company. It’s more than just a meal – it’s a moment to reflect, laugh, and rest.

Dinner is typically served between 7 and 8 PM, though in spring and autumn months with shorter daylight, we tend to eat a bit earlier, around 5 or 6 PM.

Fuel for the Journey

Throughout the trip, our aim is to keep you well-fed and full of energy. Alongside the main meals, we include expedition-friendly snacks like trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, and energy bars – ideal for quick breaks between paddle strokes.

Shared Meals, Shared Moments

Our guides take care of all the behind-the-scenes logistics — from meal planning to shopping and making sure everything is ready. But when it comes to cooking, we like to keep things communal. Preparing food together is part of the rhythm of the trip — chopping, stirring, cooking, and sharing stories around the stove. You don’t need to be a kitchen pro, just willing to jump in when it’s time.

The rules are simple (and only half-joking): if you don’t cook, you’ll likely do the dishes. Everyone washes their own utensils after meals, and the shared cooking gear usually goes to those who skipped the chopping. If everyone helps a little, no one works too much — and somehow, the food tastes even better and we keep alive POMALO  way of life…

Special Dietary Needs

We’re committed to making sure everyone feels safe and well looked after, including those with specific dietary needs or allergies. During the booking process, we’ll ask you to fill out a medical form that covers this in detail. That way, we can plan ahead and make sure meals suit everyone as best as possible.

Overnights

During the expedition, each overnight stay is part of the experience – ranging from official campsite with showers, toilets and fresh water, to completely remote bays where there is nothing but the sea and the sky above you. It’s this mix of comfort and wilderness that makes our trips truly special.

FAQ
How fit do I need to be?

You don’t need to be an athlete, but good physical condition is required. Expect to paddle between 15–25 km per day with regular and appropriate breaks, depending on the pace and capabilities of the group.

What level of kayaking experience is required?

You don’t need to be an expert, but some prior experience with sit-in sea kayaks would be useful. You should be comfortable paddling for several hours a day and have basic control over the kayak, including steering and maintaining balance.

If you’ve done a day tour or multi-hour paddle in a sit-in sea kayak before and felt confident, you should be ready for this expedition.

Do I need prior camping experience to join this trip?

No prior camping experience is required. The guides will assist with setting up tents and provide tips to make the experience enjoyable for all participants.

Are the meals provided suitable for specific dietary restrictions?

Yes, the meals cater to a variety of dietary requirements. Simply inform the hosts of your needs before expedition starts.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?

This expedition is primarily a camping adventure, meaning most nights will be spent sleeping outdoors in organized campsites, wild camping spots, or occasionally in private accommodations when available.

What is the weather like in Croatia during the pre-season and post-season?

Spring (April – June) and autumn (September – October) are fantastic times for sea kayaking in Croatia. The temperatures are mild and pleasant, ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), and the sea remains warm enough for swimming, especially in early autumn.

These months also offer calmer waters, fewer crowds, and more peaceful natural surroundings, making them ideal for an expedition experience.

We constantly monitor weather conditions and adapt the route if needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. If you have any concerns about the weather, feel free to ask!

Are there any rest days?

It depends on the program. Our expeditions are designed with a balance between paddling and recovery—some days involve longer distances, while others are shorter and more relaxed.

On trips that include a designated rest day, you can choose how to spend it. Some guests prefer to relax, swim, and enjoy the surroundings, while others opt for a shorter paddle, a coastal hike, or exploring nearby areas. The flexibility allows you to recharge while still making the most of your adventure.

Is insurance provided, or do I need my own travel insurance?

Our insurance covers participants while they are on the expedition with us. However, we strongly recommend that all participants obtain their own travel insurance to cover their entire stay in Croatia.

What kind of kayaks and equipment do you provide?

We use high-quality sit-in sea kayaks, designed for multi-day expeditions. Our fleet includes Prijon kayaks (Seatron GT, Seayak classic, Touryak), all equipped with rudders for better control. We provide lightweight paddles, spray skirts, life jackets (PFDs), and dry bags for your personal belongings.

What camping equipment is available?

Participants can use our tents for an additional fee or bring their own. Sleeping bags and sleeping mats are not provided, so guests must bring their own. We strongly recommend bringing a warm sleeping bag, as nights can be chilly (5  - 10 °C).

Do I need to bring my own cooking gear?

Our guides will have camp stoves, but it's always a good idea to bring your own if you prefer more flexibility. We recommend bringing a pot, knife, fork, spoon, and any other utensils you may need for meal preparation.
